In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, the motorcycle fatality rate has increased dramatically since 1997.

In response, the United States Congress approved federal funding to study the cause of motorcycle deaths in an attempt to attack this problem head on. Congress has pledged 2.8 million dollars for this study provided that the motorcycle community come up with a matching 2.8 million of its own to contribute to the study. Thankfully, the motorcycling community met this challenge in July of 2007 and this study is now underway.

Regardless of the strides being made to make riding a motorcycle/bicycle safer on our roadways, unfortunately, tragedy will still arise out of the operation of these vehicles.
